Front Door is Open

Hi, and welcome. This is officially the first post in the publicly-shared JimmerShine.com hosting event. I’ve been working towards this for a couple years. Please notice that I am working in tandem with http://www.ShowUsChina.com at the same time. As of today, it has actually taken up most of my attention, and I hope it captures yours. Please sign up for updates, as it is going to grow in leaps and bounds in the coming months. I hope you enjoy the photography, which I have spent more time on organizing than may be clear. Only the first few hundred photos are up now, but enough to give you plenty to look at. At one point a couple years ago, I took 35,000 photos and filtered them to 4,000. I am now editing and posting those in small, thoughtful batches, between 20 and ~75 in a set. Those sets are largely going to be hosted on ShowUsChina.com and the rest will be hosted here at the photography portion of JimmerShine.com, if they are not about China. Most people know my artistic work (outside the sculptural world) as being written work. Admittedly, as of October 7th, 2018, this site is not broad in that department. I have put up a static page here, which offers a poem that I am rather pleased with that I hope you like. More will be offered soon, so please sign up for email updates in the widget at the top of the right-hand column of this page. I am working on three avenues of writing at the moment. First, I will blog here somewhat regularly, having to do with my observations and thoughts about life on Earth. Second, I would like to re-release Rainshine (the 444 page opus of poetry and graphic arts that I released in 2010) in the year 2020. I will add a few new pieces and sharpen a few edges from within it from before. Third, I am aiming at writing a new book that will address the peculiar perspective I’ve been able to experience by being a migrant worker in Asia for the last ten years or so. Am I not a migrant worker? Some say I’m an expat. Some say “expat” is a culturally loaded term and should be looked at more closely. I’ll do so in my book. Life is inherently weird, but can be brilliant in the midst of the chaos as well. More on that is explained at the funding website JimmerShine-Patreon. Overall, I hope that you are keen on this new site as something organic and worth keeping track of, like me. Similarly, I hope you feel comfortable interacting with this website as if I were listening, because I am. I hope that this stands as a light in the darkness. For times now are wretched with trials, from the American democracy being bullied, to plastics in the water killing untold thousands of fish, whales and more, making our shores unclean and our waters less safe. Somewhere out here, is a person trying to find the beauty in life to reflect it back your way. I hope it reaches you. I hope you feel better knowing that there is still a lot worth standing up to celebrate as well as defend. ~Your Jimmer
